Ravenna Hosts Danube Operetta Trilogy with Hungarian Theatres

From October 14 to 23, 2016, Ravenna hosted a trilogy of 'Danube operettas' in collaboration with the Budapest Operetta Theatre, Csokonai Theatre, and National Theatre of Szeged. The lineup featured 'Countess Maritza' by Emmerich Kálmán, 'The Merry Widow' by Franz Lehár, and 'Die Fledermaus' by Johann Strauss Jr., highlighting the Danube operetta's golden age between 1875 and 1924. The productions were supported by the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra, a dance troupe from Budapest, and distinguished Hungarian vocalists. Logistics included transporting sets and equipment via four trucks, with around 200 Hungarian artists accommodated in local hotels. Ravenna Manifestazioni organizes approximately 200 performances each year, backed by fifty sponsors, with public funding contributing eight euros to the local economy.
