Rava vavàra: radio art program dedicated to sound poetry
Rava vavàra is a nomadic radio program founded in 2017 by artists Eva Macali (Siena, 1974) and Valentina Furian (Dolo, 1989) that explores sound poetry and interdisciplinary practices. The show originated on Radio Onda Rossa in Rome and has since moved to Radio Raheem in Milan, with contributions from international artists. Macali, a musician and visual artist, currently hosts the program, which functions as a laboratory rather than a curated platform. The name derives from a Dadaist poem Macali wrote in 2016. The program features experimental compositions, conceptual works, invented instruments, and sound installations, with a particular focus on feminist sound poetry. Macali notes that women tend to use voice more than instruments, opening new creative avenues. The next episode airs July 15 at 12:00 on Radio Raheem, focusing on artificial intelligence and choir, with contributions from Elena Bellantoni, Atau Tanaka, Petri Kuljuntausta, Nicola Di Croce, Mark Fell (whose installation at Hangar Bicocca responds to Sheela Gowda's exhibition), and Phoebe Zeitgeist. The program has been itinerant, broadcasting from Germany via Radio Corax in Halle with support from Goethe Institut. Podcasts are available at www.ravavavara.art.
