Raumplan's 'Trouble Making' at Salone del Mobile Questions City Making
At the 2018 Salone del Mobile in Milan, the curatorial collective Raumplan presented 'Trouble Making. Who’s making the City?' at BASE Milano, running until April 22. The exhibition critically examined urban transformation driven by financialization, platform capitalism, and smart technologies, challenging the notion of participatory city making. Featuring works by artists including Louis De Belle, Giacomo Traldi, Calib.ro, Donato Ricci, Òbelo, Ayr, Delfino Sisto Legnani, and Giga Design Studio + Superinternet, the show focused on the perspectives of workers and producers rather than consumers. Topics included the gig economy (riders for Foodora and Glovo), Airbnb's impact, and standardized tourism via sightseeing buses. Raumplan, a multidisciplinary group, previously addressed economic cycles with 'Capitalism Is Over' at the same fair. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with BASE and published in Artribune Magazine #42.
