Raul Gabriel's 'Tapeland' at Museo Michetti Explores Aesthetic Fragmentation

The Museo Michetti in Francavilla al Mare, Chieti, is hosting 'Tapeland', a solo exhibition by Argentine-born artist Raul Gabriel (Buenos Aires, 1966), curated by Paolo Bolpagni. Running from July 26 to September 23, 2023, the show coincides with the 74th edition of the Premio Michetti. Gabriel's work spans painting, digital print, video, and pieces made with tape or on polystyrene, unified by a theme of variety and discontinuity. The artist aims to highlight the fragmentation of aesthetic languages that have given rise to a complex and multifaceted scenario. Curator Bolpagni describes the exhibition as an attempt to rethink the relationship between existence and art, warning that critical jargon risks missing the authentic sense of a creative activity rooted in life. The display presents a constellation of works and juxtapositions of styles under the verb 'decostruire' (deconstruct). Colors and forms assert themselves through their disorder, offering an alternative vision of reality that accounts for individual inclinations.
