Raul Cordero's 'Reality is the New Spam' at Wizard Gallery, Milan

Cuban artist Raul Cordero (Havana, 1971) presents 'Reality is the New Spam' at Wizard Gallery in Milan, exploring technology's impact on life and art. The exhibition comprises seven canvas works and three digital pieces inspired by the digital layer that has permeated human existence for two decades. Viewers are challenged to actively read the art rather than passively observe. Works are displayed on walls, with video pieces on the floor or hidden behind the main room. Paintings feature bright, almost fluorescent colors with blurred images overlaid with signs and forms to decipher. Cordero juxtaposes human intelligence with artificial intelligence: landscapes are overlaid with satellite locations, and blurring contrasts with rigid frame boundaries. He suggests that today we might be unable to live without digital devices, as reality is always mediated by technology. The artist does not criticize digital tools but invites understanding and adoption of this new language. Through canvases and videos contrasting realistic images with artificial interventions, Cordero depicts a filtered reality that generates a new world where real and virtual merge into a single dimension we all belong to.
