Rashid Johnson's 'Directionless' at Hauser & Wirth Menorca

Rashid Johnson has organized 'Directionless' at Hauser & Wirth Menorca, an exhibition that embraces disorientation rather than resolving it. The show features 28 artists from over ten countries, including Georg Baselitz, Rineke Dijkstra, Julie Mehretu, and Lorna Simpson. Johnson invited three artists—Charles Gaines, Firelei Báez, and Cristina Iglesias—to each nominate additional participants from outside Hauser & Wirth's roster. Eight artists are creating new works for the occasion, including Johnson, Gaines, Meg Webster, Todd Gray, Hanna Hur, and Latifa Echakhch. Cristina Iglesias curated the outdoor presentation for the first time, selecting Ali Cherri, Mona Hatoum, Rayyane Tabet, Yto Barrada, and Sigalit Landau. The exhibition occupies all galleries and the full landscape of Illa del Rei, marking the first time the entire venue is used. The Education Lab collaborates with the University of the Balearic Islands and the University of Barcelona. Cantina, the on-site restaurant, received two stars from the Sustainable Restaurant Association's Food Made Good Standard. 'Directionless' runs from 21 June to 25 October 2026. Johnson is also launching the Casa Gràcia residency in Mahón with Sheree Hovsepian.
