Raša Todosijević discusses 2011 Venice Biennale representation and Yugoslav conceptual art legacy
At the 2011 Venice Biennale, Serbia will be represented by Dragoljub Raša Todosijević, while Croatia will have Tomislav Gotovac, who passed away in 2010, and Montenegro will showcase Marina Abramović and her cultural center in Cetinje. Todosijević views Gotovac's inclusion as coincidental rather than a revival of 1970s Yugoslav conceptual artists. Montenegro's representatives include Ilija Šoškic and Natalija Vujoševic. Todosijević, born in Belgrade on September 2, 1945, played a pivotal role in the New Artistic Practice movement. His exhibition, titled "Light and Darkness of Symbols," will not present new works for the Biennale's "Illuminations" theme. He has earned several accolades and discussed the national pavilion structure on April 1, 2011, in Belgrade.
