Rare Picasso, Monet, and Hartley Works on Loan at National Gallery This Summer
Beginning in August, the National Gallery in London will showcase three remarkable artworks on loan: Pablo Picasso's Portrait of Germaine (1902), Claude Monet's Waterlilies (1905), and Marsden Hartley's Painting No. 50 (1914–15). The Portrait of Germaine, sourced from the Kenneth C. Griffin Collection, is the sole Blue Period piece exhibited in a London museum. Monet's Waterlilies will complete a quartet in Room 46, while Hartley's Painting No. 50, inspired by the Der Blaue Reiter movement, will be displayed in Room 45 alongside George Bellows' Men of the Docks (1912). Hartley’s work will preview themes for the forthcoming exhibition 'German Expressionism: Modern Painting 1900–1918,' set to open in March 2027. All paintings will be available for viewing throughout August.
