Rare Hermès Birkin Twice Signed by Jane Birkin Heads to Auction in Dallas

market-auction · 2026-03-31

On April 23, Heritage Auctions is set to showcase a special Hermès Birkin handbag featuring two signatures from the iconic Jane Birkin, who inspired the bag's name. This 'Bleu Marine' handbag is decorated with palladium hardware and includes personal notes to her friend Midori Senga, a former owner of Tokyo's Agnes Hotel. Birkin famously treated the Courchevel leather by stepping on it, believing that bags should be functional rather than just ornamental. The starting bid is $16,000. The auction will also present a matte white Himalaya Niloticus crocodile Birkin, currently at $57,500, and a limited-edition sterling silver Kellymorphose Sac Bijou Chaine Bag. Heritage’s luxury accessories director, Diane D’Amato, calls this auction "the pinnacle of luxury collecting." It will be held live in Dallas and online at 10 a.m. CT, with online bidding closing 10 minutes earlier. This handbag differs from the original prototype created for Birkin in 1984 by Jean-Louis Dumas, which sold for $10.1 million at Sotheby’s in June 2025.
