Raphael's Tapestries on Show in Loreto's Bastione San Gallo
At the Bastione San Gallo in Loreto, an exhibition highlights tapestries designed by Raphael, prominently featuring 'Anania e Saffira' from the Roberto Bilotti Ruggì d’Aragona collection. This piece illustrates Anania being struck down by Saint Peter and is part of a series focused on Saints Peter and Paul, which includes seven colored cartoons housed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Crafted by Heinrich Mattens, the tapestry showcases diverse backgrounds and an allegorical border. Additionally, prints from Fortunato Duranti's collection are part of the exhibit. The Museo-Pinacoteca dell’Antico Tesoro displays two Brussels-woven tapestries (1620-1624) based on Raphael's designs, gifted by Giovan Battista Pallavicino in 1667. The Galleria Nazionale delle Marche also possesses a 'Morte di Anania' tapestry created in France.
