Rankin on Creativity, Celebrity, and the Power of Photography

In an interview with Artribune, British photographer John Rankin Waddell, popularly known as Rankin, reflects on his professional journey. Born in 1966, he initially pursued accounting before enrolling at the London College of Printing and co-founding Dazed & Confused. His photography explores themes of celebrity idealism and human imperfection. At Photo London 2023, Rankin showcased "Dazed Decades Rankin Book 1990-2016," which includes previously unseen works and Polaroids of renowned models. He is set to release a second volume, "Timeslice," on May 24. Rankin regards photography as a medium for fostering awareness and collaboration, highlighting Madonna's dedication. While he finds revisiting his Dazed era uncomfortable, he recognizes its influence on his current projects, underscoring photography's fleeting essence.
