Random Institute's Clandestine Exhibition 'All the Lights We Cannot See' in Pyongyang
Between April 9 and 12, 2016, the Random Institute hosted a clandestine exhibition titled 'All the Lights We Cannot See' at the Yanggakdo International Hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea. The event, curated by Anna Hugo and organized by Zurich's Random Institute, established by Sandino Scheidegger and Luca Müller, showcased pieces from nine global artists but went unreported by the media. The artworks, documented on the Random Institute's website, included Ragnheidur Karadottir's 'Birdie' (2016), Simon Mullan's 'Naked Bombers' (2016), Juan Betancurth's 'Movement No.6' (2016), Alison Kuo's 'Personal Chocolate' (2016), and Clifford E. Bruckmann's 'Sulking Souvenir' (2013). The artists complied with North Korean regulations and maintained confidentiality. A limited edition catalog, camouflaged as the Pyongyang Times, was subsequently published.
