Rainier Lericolais at Le 19 Centre d'Art Contemporain

Rainier Lericolais's exhibition at Le 19 – Centre d'art contemporain in Montbéliard, France, from February 12 to March 1, 2003, showcases his distinctive practice that combines drawing, photography, sculpture, and painting using precarious materials like glue, cardboard, and residual images. Lericolais creates translucent spider webs, panoramic views, and portraits of young women drawn with glue, photographs TV screens at the moment they turn off, and constructs ephemeral architectural elements from cardboard. He also works on magazine images with water or trichloroethylene. His works explore tensions between construction and deconstruction, fragility and solidity, figuration and abstraction, appearance and disappearance. The artist previously exhibited at Galerie Decimus Magnus Art in Bordeaux in June 2002 and will show at Galerie municipale Edouard Manet in Gennevilliers from February 6 to March 15. Critic Didier Arnaudet notes that Lericolais's work balances gravity and lightness through lucidity and irony, with materials that question themselves and invite viewers to witness their transformations.
