Rai Documentary Chronicles Three Decades of Italian Sculptor Giuliana Cunéaz

publication · 2026-04-27

Giuliana Cunéaz, a living Italian artist whose work is held in the Quirinale collection, is the subject of a new documentary produced by Rai Val d'Aosta. Directed by actress and filmmaker Paola Corti, the film traces the artist's career from 1990 to the present, exploring her versatile practice across sculpture, painting, 3D imagery, dance, and performance. The documentary, titled "Giuliana Cunéaz – Cercatrice di Luce" (Seeker of Light), opens with Cunéaz recounting a childhood drawing that changed her life. It then moves through key works, from the 1990 installation "Il Silenzio delle Fate" to the recent three-screen video installation "I Cercatori di Luce," which was exhibited at PalaCinema in Locarno and the Meet Digital Culture Center in Milan. The artist describes her work as breaking down dogmas to capture the spirit of the time. The film also delves into the concepts behind "I Cercatori di Luce," which addresses sustainability, the erasure of space-time differences, and the desire to improve individual and collective dimensions. Cunéaz's work "Lo Spirito della Rosa" (2021), a painted fiberglass piece, is part of the Quirinale collection, making her one of the few living Italian artists to hold that distinction.
