Ragnar Kjartansson's The Visitors featured in Artes Mundi 6 exhibition across Cardiff venues

exhibition · 2026-04-20

At Artes Mundi 6, the largest monetary art prize exhibition in the UK, Ragnar Kjartansson showcases his multi-screen video installation, The Visitors. This work, filmed two years ago in a mansion in New York, features musicians from Reykjavík's vibrant scene. Kjartansson selected the upper floor of Ffotogallery for its acoustic resemblance to the original filming site. The exhibition is open until February 22, 2015, across three Cardiff locations: National Museum Cardiff, Chapter Arts Centre, and Ffotogallery. Kjartansson characterizes his piece as a "feministic, nihilistic, satanic gospel," drawing inspiration from Stockhausen and The Flaming Lips. He jokingly suggests that spending the £40,000 prize on tobacco and silk scarves would be impractical. The winner will be revealed on January 22, 2015.
