Raghu Rai, legendary Indian photographer, dies at 84

Raghu Rai, the celebrated Indian photographer whose work chronicled the nation's political and social history for over six decades, has died at the age of 84. His career began in 1965 when he joined The Statesman newspaper, and he later became a member of the Magnum Photos agency in 1977. Rai was best known for his intimate black-and-white portraits of everyday life in India, as well as his coverage of major events such as the Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984 and the assassination of Indira Gandhi. He also famously documented the life of Mother Teresa over many years. His work has been exhibited worldwide and published in numerous books. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
