Raffaello tapestry 'Ananias and Saphira' on view in Palermo

The 10th edition of Settimana delle Culture in Palermo runs until October 3, 2021, featuring 120 events across historic venues. The highlight is the exhibition of the tapestry 'Ananias and Saphira' at Galleria Regionale di Palazzo Abatellis, drawn from Raphael's cartoon for the Sistine Chapel. The tapestry, part of the Roberto Bilotti Ruggi d’Aragona collection, was woven by Heinrich Mattens of Brussels between 1620-1624. It belongs to a series of which only the 'Stoning of Stephen' at château du Plessis-Bourré in Angers was previously known. The cartoon is held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Accompanying the tapestry is an engraving by Nicolas Dorigny (1711-1719), commissioned by Queen Anne of England to celebrate the cartoon's placement at Hampton Court. Other exhibitions include painting and photography at Palazzo Oneto di Sperlinga; 'Ars Memoriae' and 'Le donne, i cavalier, l’arme, gli amori' at Palazzo Branciforte; and 'Stabilimenti Ducrot alla Zisa' at Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa.
