Radis: Public Art Project to Transform Piedmont's Valleys

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

The Fondazione per l'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, led by President Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, has launched Radis, a four-year public art project across Piedmont's provinces. The first edition, curated by Marta Papini, will debut on October 5, 2024, in the province of Cuneo, in collaboration with the Fondazione CRC. Artist Giulia Cenci has been selected for a residency; her permanent work will be installed in the Valle Stura, in a birch grove called Chiot Rosa at 1,200 meters above sea level, between the municipality of Rittana and the hamlet of Paraloup. The site holds historical significance as the former headquarters of the Giustizia e Libertà partisan bands. The artwork will remain property of the foundation, on permanent loan to the municipality of Rittana. A collective exhibition curated by Marta Papini, Leonardo Pietropaolo, and Giulia Cenci will open on July 14 in Rittana, featuring works from both foundations, leading up to the unveiling on October 5. Cenci describes this as her first permanent public commission, noting the area's layered cultural, natural, and territorial history, including its wartime past and subsequent regeneration. The project aims to generate artistic heritage for the community and attract responsible tourism, with each subsequent year focusing on a different Piedmontese province.
