Radiologist Mauro De Iorio to Open Hybrid Medical Center and Art Space in Verona

Mauro De Iorio, a radiologist and healthcare entrepreneur, is expanding his art collection into a new hybrid space in Verona. His collection, started in 2002 with Giulio Paolini's "Orfeo" (1988), now includes about 600 works by historicized artists like Carla Accardi, Gianfranco Baruchello, Gina Pane, Tony Cragg, Sol LeWitt, and Ettore Spalletti, as well as younger international artists such as Korakrit Arunanondchai, Josh Kline, and Petrit Halilaj. De Iorio's passion was inherited from his father, a collector of ancient art. The new project in Verona involves a 1,600-square-meter medical center attached to a restored 1930s sawmill that will serve as an exhibition space. A mezzanine is being added to host shows and events. The model follows his Trento center, where 45 works are displayed in the clinic and 70 more in a nearby open space. The Verona space will feature a shared terrace for events, allowing patients to visit the collection. De Iorio does not claim art has therapeutic effects but believes beauty stimulates endorphins and serotonin, contributing to holistic well-being. The space is expected to be completed by the end of March, with gradual installation of works.
