Radio GAMeC Launches 'Pedagogy of Hope' as Venice Biennale Collateral Event

Radio GAMeC, the digital platform of GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, is launching its seventh edition titled 'Pedagogy of Hope' as a Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Curated by Lorenzo Giusti and Lara Facco, the project will have a pre-opening from May 6 to 8, 2026, and be open to the public from May 9 to November 22, 2026. From May 5 to 10, 2026, during the opening week of the Biennale, broadcasts will air from the spaces of Radio Vanessa, a historic Venetian free radio station founded clandestinely in 1978 that transmits in FM from the historic center between the Arsenale and Giardini. The physical location will serve as a listening, meeting, and participation space, combining in-person engagement with FM transmission and streaming via the project's website and dedicated channels. Programming will continue online until November 22 on radio.gamec.it and related platforms. The initiative aligns with GAMeC's 2026 museum programming, focusing on education as a practice of freedom and transformation, inspired by the studies of Brazilian pedagogue Paulo Freire. It aims to explore essential knowledge and skills for understanding contemporary reality, promote critical thinking, and integrate dialogic processes with institutional expertise. The project emphasizes decentralized perspectives and non-hegemonic forms of knowledge, engaging with the Biennale's theme 'In Minor Keys' conceived by Koyo Kouoh (1967-2025). The schedule will feature conversations with artists, curators, educators, activists, researchers, and professionals from various fields, fostering broad dialogue. Content will be archived online as a public resource and included in the Archivio Storico delle Arti Contemporanee della Biennale di Venezia. Radio GAMeC, established in 2020 during lockdowns, is recognized internationally as an innovative museum practice model.
