Radicepura Garden Festival, first Mediterranean garden design biennial, launches in Sicily

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The Radicepura Garden Festival, the first international event dedicated to garden design and landscape architecture in the Mediterranean, has launched in Giarre, Sicily. Running from April 21 to October 21, the festival takes place in the Radicepura botanical park and features fourteen gardens created with plants from Piante Faro, a nursery with 800 species and over 5,000 varieties, led by Venerando Faro and his sons Mario and Michele. Artistic director Pablo Georgieff emphasized that this is the first garden festival organized in a nursery setting, allowing visitors to see both the garden displays and the production reality. The festival's theme, "Esperienza Mediterranea," aims to unite art, food and wine culture, and environmental protection. International garden designers Michel Péna, Stefano Passerotti, Kamelia Bin Zaal, and James Basson each created a garden of about 150 square meters, alongside young landscape architects selected through an international call. Sicilian artists Emilio Isgrò and Alfio Bonanno are producing site-specific works, and Galleria Collicaligreggi is curating an artist residency program and a photography exhibition titled "Herbarium" in the park's noble palace.
