Rachele Maistrello's 'Arcadia' Opens at Gelateria Sogni di Ghiaccio in Bologna

Gelateria Sogni di Ghiaccio, an artist-run space founded by Filippo Marzocchi, Mattia Pajè, and Marco Casella, launches with Rachele Maistrello's project 'Arcadia'. The space is divided into a studio and an exhibition area. 'Arcadia' unfolds in two parts: an exhibition at Gelateria and a performance at Localedue, a non-profit space in Bologna. The show includes 'First Attempt', a six-screen video installation; 'Second Attempt', featuring scientific illustrations alongside analog photographs; and 'Third Attempt', comprising two additional analog photographs. 'First Attempt' is the core, with four lateral screens showing children interacting with grandparents via musical instruments in domestic settings, obscured by a backdrop of NASA celestial photographs. Two central screens feature pre-adolescent girls in Bologna's industrial periphery, engaging with the artist's structure without family. Maistrello uses common symbols like stars and generational distinctions to create an atemporal, estranging relationship. The exhibition runs until November 28, 2016.
