Race Across the World contestants unite for memorial run

other · 2026-05-17

To remember Sam Gardiner, a former contestant who sadly died in a car crash on May 26, 2025, at just 24, participants from all seasons of BBC's Race Across the World are coming together. On May 31, 11 of them, including current contestants Katie, Harrison, Jo, and Kush, will take part in the Great Manchester Run, marking one year since Sam's passing. The goal is to raise funds for The Christie Charity, which supports cancer patients. Emon Choudhury, who won the second series with Sam, noted how his influence brought everyone together. Jo, who was both Sam's adopted mother and travel partner in the 2020 series, will cheer on the runners. After his death, over £28,000 was raised for fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), which Sam had. Other participants include Trish and Cathie from season three, Stephen and Viv from season four, and Darron Speck, the runner-up from the first season.
