Rä di Martino's Moonbird Variations premieres at La Pelanda, Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Rä di Martino's Moonbird Variations, a live opera and video work co-produced by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo under the project Prender-si cura, premieres on July 6 and 7, 2022, at La Pelanda del Mattatoio in Rome as part of the re-creatures 2022- program. The narrative follows Amedeo, a young botanist who isolates himself in a villa, where the dreamlike creature Moonbird—half-woman, half-bird—emerges as a spiritual symbol. The live performance integrates the film with music by Mauro Remiddi and live musicians Simone Pappalardo and Simone Alessandrini, blending cinema, video art, and opera. The audience experiences a sonic labyrinth of projections and neoclassical-to-electronic music.
