Rä Di Martino's 'Controfigura' Premieres at Venice Film Festival

On the ninth day of the 74th Venice International Film Festival, Italian artist Rä Di Martino (born 1975 in Rome) presented her feature-length directorial debut 'Controfigura' in the Cinema in Giardino section. The film explores mechanisms of fiction and the film set as a metaphor for life, continuing her artistic practice. Actor Corrado Sassi, a double for Filippo Timi (who appears with Valeria Golino), appeared on the red carpet in boxers, running, inspired by Burt Lancaster in 'The Swimmer'. The day also featured Vivian Qu's 'Angels Wear White' in competition, a film about two girls abused by their school principal, protected by corruption; and Abdellatif Kechiche's 'Mektoub, My Love: Canto Uno', a three-hour naturalistic portrayal of young friends on vacation. Sofia Djama's 'Les bienheureux', a story of adolescence in Algeria grappling with identity and progress, screened at Pala Biennale. The Manetti Bros' 'Ammore e malavita' received a thunderous welcome, offering a musical respite from the festival's otherwise dark and anguished atmosphere.
