Rä di Martino launches call for Piper documentary footage

artist · 2026-05-05

Rä di Martino has launched a public call for unpublished documentation of the historic Piper club in Turin, which operated from 1966 to 1969. Designed by architect Pietro Derossi with Giorgio Ceretti and Riccardo Rosso, the Piper was a self-managed cultural hub where art forms converged—from Carmelo Bene performing Mayakovsky to the Living Theatre, Open Theatre of New York, and Arte Povera artists like Pistoletto, Gilardi, and Merz. The club also hosted bands such as Le Stelle di Schifano. The documentary project stems from an artistic initiative by Paola Nicolin for Artissima 2017 titled "PIPER. Learning at the discotheque." The call, open until February 28, 2018, seeks photos, Super 8 films, slides, and stories. Collected materials will be digitized and preserved by the Archivio Nazionale Cinema Impresa and the Centro Conservazione e Restauro di Venaria Reale.
