R.I.P. Germain Artist Talk at Central Saint Martins

artist · 2026-04-22

London-based artist R.I.P. Germain delivered a talk on 17 November 2023 at Central Saint Martins as part of Afterall ArtSchool's Hiding in Plain Sight programme. The talk explored the concept of the shadow in Germain's practice, touching on subterranean networks, markets, financial systems, and mimicry. The programme, inspired by Fred Moten and Stefano Harney's 'undercommons', encourages alternative study outside institutional frameworks. Germain's work draws from Black experience and culture, aiming for deep truths without oversimplification. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Goswell Road, Paris; ICA, London; and Two Queens, Leicester. Germain received the ICA Image Behaviour 2021 prize, leading to a short film premiere in 2022.
