Quodlibet publishes Luigi Ghirri's collected writings and interviews
Quodlibet has released 'Niente di antico sotto il sole', a volume of writings and interviews by Luigi Ghirri, edited by Paolo Costantini and Giovanni Chiaramonte, with an introduction by Francesco Zanot. The book is based on the 1997 edition by Società Editrice Internazionale and comes eleven years after 'Lezioni di fotografia' (2010). Ghirri's theoretical reflections center on photography as a practice rather than mere image-making, emphasizing the photographer's relationship with the world through perception, light, and critical engagement. He discusses the importance of working on location versus in a studio, the concept of the threshold in framing, and the impossibility of neutral vision. The collection includes his preface to 'Kodachrome' and analyses of other photographers like Franco Vimercati. Ghirri's approach advocates for wonder and a dialectical method that balances internal and external worlds, acknowledging the inevitable gap between intention and result.
