Quincena de los Cineastas 2026: 19 films from 19 countries challenge Cannes
The 58th edition of the Quinzaine des Cinéastes (Directors' Fortnight) will run from May 13 to 26, 2026, parallel to the Cannes Film Festival. Curated under the inspiration of Alain Guiraudie, the selection includes 19 feature films and 9 short films from 19 countries across five continents, notably featuring underrepresented cinemas from Nigeria, Sudan, Guatemala, Venezuela, and Cyprus. The program balances established directors and emerging voices, with six debut features. The opening film is Kantemir Balagov's Butterfly Jam starring Barry Keoghan and Monica Bellucci. Other highlights include Lisandro Alonso's Double Freedom, Radu Jude's Le Journal d'une femme de chambre, and a special screening of Bruno Dumont's Red Rocks, shot on the French Riviera with young children in a documentary style. The closing film is Quentin Dupieux's animated Le Vertige. The Carrosse d'Or award will be presented to Claire Denis on May 13, honoring her radical cinematic freedom. The section also features three documentary features and three animated features, alongside a retrospective nod to Alain Cavalier, whose new film Merci d'être venu continues his filmed diary. The Quinzaine reaffirms its commitment to formal risk, narrative experimentation, and decentralization of the cinematic map.
