Quin Hotel launches street artist residency with London Police
The Quin Hotel in Midtown Manhattan has launched a residency program for street artists, starting with the London Police duo. The British duo, formed in 1999 and known for their LADS tag, previously painted at Coney Art Walls curated by Jeffrey Deitch. They have painted a main wall in the hotel, and a concurrent exhibition of their black-and-white works on paper and canvas is on view in the lobby. The program, reported by Gloria Dawson of The New York Times, reflects a trend in the US where hotels use art to differentiate from Airbnb. Similar initiatives exist in Italy, such as Byblos Art Hotel near Verona, featuring works by Vanessa Beecroft, Marina Abramović, and Bertozzi e Casoni, and Piazzadispagna 9 in Rome, which operates as a rotating gallery. Villa Maria near Pescara runs the Xenia residency for young artists.
