Quentin Bajac Appointed Chief Curator of Photography at MoMA
As of January 2013, Quentin Bajac will take on the role of chief curator for the photography department at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, succeeding Peter Galassi, who served in this capacity for three decades. Bajac’s professional journey includes time at the Musée d'Orsay from 1995 to 2003 and a position as director of the photography collection at the Centre Pompidou, which he assumed in 2007. His notable exhibitions feature the rediscovery of the French daguerreotype (2003), "La Subversion des images" (2009), and "Dreamlands" (2010). He has written a trilogy on the history of photography and worked with numerous artists. At MoMA, he will oversee a comprehensive collection of photography dating back to 1839, unlike the divisions seen in Parisian institutions. His future plans have not been revealed.
