Queer Eastern European Futurism Explored in London Exhibition Through Ritual and Relic

exhibition · 2026-04-20

At Cell Project Space in London, Lithuanian artists Agnė Jokšė and Anastasia Sosunova showcase 'Dance As You Wrestle,' open until 26 February. This exhibition explores queer love in the context of Eastern Orthodox traditions, utilizing the Epiphany ritual celebrated on 19 January as a backdrop. Sosunova's works include 'Express Method' (2022), which incorporates polluted water from the River Lea encased in plastic, and 'The Visitation' (2022), featuring copper belts alongside a video of Russian monuments. Jokšė contributes videos such as 'Unconditional Love Extended' (2022), featuring her family, and 'Dear Friend' (2019), which addresses gaps in letters. A collaborative sculpture preserves letters from Sosunova's mother in resin, spanning both gallery levels to form personal reliquaries of unresolved histories.
