Quarantine Artist Residency on Menorca's Lazaretto Island

Quarantine is this fascinating residency program set on a remote island in Menorca, Spain, where 80 artists dive into a week of rigorous, tech-free creative challenges. Launched by artist Carles Gomila, it takes place at the historic Lazaretto of Mahón, an 18th-century fortress that was once a quarantine site. Each day, artists make the boat trip from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM, completely unplugged from phones and the internet. The upcoming April 2026 session, called 'Tears in Rain' as a nod to Blade Runner, will feature mentors like Yuko Shimizu and Martin Wittfooth. Activities range from life drawing to masterclasses, ending with a memorable burning ceremony of the artworks. The program, backed by local authorities and Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca, aims to inspire creativity through discomfort and introspection, drawing participants from diverse backgrounds like tech, finance, and education.
