Qatar Launches Rubaiya Qatar Quadrennial 2026; Kelly Akashi Commissioned for JFK; New Art Fairs Emerge in Asia

In November 2026, Qatar will unveil the Rubaiya Qatar contemporary art quadrennial at Al Riwaq pavilion in Doha, under the guidance of curators Tom Eccles, Ruba Katrib, Mark Rappolt, and Shabbir Husain Mustafa. The first edition, titled "Unruly Waters," will feature satellite events across the country. In New York, artist Kelly Akashi is set to produce a 5.5-meter sculpture named Migration of Flora for JFK Airport's New Terminal One, part of a $19 billion expansion scheduled between 2026 and 2030, as announced on October 27. Additionally, the Hanwha Foundation will inaugurate Space ZeroOne in Tribeca on November 7, displaying works by eight Korean artists until December 20. From December 13 to March 31, 2026, Dubai's Ishara Art Foundation will present Ishara House in Kochi, and Taipei will host the Pavilion art fair from January 22–26, 2026.
