Qatar will launch Rubaiya Qatar, an international contemporary art quadrennial opening in November 2026. The inaugural edition, titled Unruly Water, will be curated by Tom Eccles of Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies, Ruba Katrib from MoMA PS1, Mark Rappolt of ArtReview, and Shabbir Husain Mustafa from Singapore Art Museum. Multiple venues across Doha will host the event, including the renovated AL RIWAQ space adjacent to the Museum of Islamic Art. A public art installation by Rirkrit Tiravanija, untitled 2025 (no bread no ashes), is already on view at MIA Park through January 30, 2026, featuring traditional ovens from Qatar, South Asia, and West Asia where visitors can bake and share bread. Sheikha Alanood Al Thani, director of Rubaiya Qatar, stated in a press release that the program aims to foster dialogue, nurture creativity, and reflect Qatar's dynamic culture as a unique art destination.
