Q-Rated Workshop: Quadriennale's Third Stop in Turin with Christov-Bakargiev and Hito Steyerl

The Fondazione Quadriennale di Roma's Q-Rated workshop series continues with its third and final 2018 edition in Turin from December 10-12. Coaches include Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, director of Castello di Rivoli, and Sofia Hernández Chong Cuy, director of Witte de With Center for Contemporary Arts, Rotterdam. Participants can attend a public symposium on new technologies curated by Christov-Bakargiev and Hito Steyerl. The first workshop in Rome focused on the artist-curator theme; the second in Lecce examined how visual arts contribute to research in other fields and how new technologies respond to contemporary tensions. Artistic director Sarah Cosulich reported over 120 applications for the first two calls, expressing satisfaction. In 2019, Q-Rated will visit three new Italian cities. Robert Leckie, coach of the Lecce workshop, discussed his experience: he valued meeting a new generation of Italian artists and curators, and emphasized non-judgmental attitudes toward diverse practices. He noted that the internet offers unprecedented access to information but risks homogenizing artistic practice due to few research platforms. Leckie, recently appointed director of Spike Island in Bristol, plans to foster local, national, and international dialogue there.
