Pussy Riot Co-Curates Exhibition of Art by Imprisoned Russian Artists in Strasbourg
Nadya Tolokonnikova, the mind behind Pussy Riot, helped put together the 'Resistance Imprisoned' exhibition at Ritsch-Fisch Galerie in Strasbourg, France. This exhibit showcases works by Russian political prisoners, including Lyudmila Razumova, a photojournalist who was sentenced to seven years for anti-war graffiti. It opened on April 19 and will run until May 31, perfectly timed with the Venice Biennale starting on May 9. This effort comes in response to Russia's participation in the Biennale, which has drawn global criticism. On April 21, PACE condemned Russia's involvement and supported showcasing works from imprisoned artists. Among the attendees were families of Ukrainian POWs, and the director emphasized the importance of these artworks as resistance. Recently, the Biennale jury decided not to consider countries whose leaders face crimes against humanity, excluding Russia and Israel. Tolokonnikova welcomed this decision but urged for more actions to eliminate Russia's official presence.
