Purnima Aktar and Md Fazla Rabbi Fatiq Win Samdani Art Award
At the sixth Dhaka Art Summit, the Samdani Art Award has made history by recognizing two joint recipients for the first time: Purnima Aktar and Md Fazla Rabbi Fatiq. This biannual accolade aims to nurture emerging artists from Bangladesh. The awardees will enjoy a residency at the Delfina Foundation in London, alongside an additional residency at the Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art and Red Clay, courtesy of jury member Ibrahim Mahama. Aktar and Fatiq were chosen from a pool of twelve shortlisted candidates. Their works are showcased in the segment curated by Anne Barlow, director of Tate St. Ives. Aktar's piece, 'A Tale of Eighteen Tides,' combines Mughal miniatures with themes of the climate crisis, while Fatiq's photo series 'Mirage' delves into the politics of urban development in Bangladesh.
