Punto Zero Transforms Roman Corridor Apartment with Curved Boiserie and Chromatic Precision

architecture-design · 2026-05-26

Punto Zero has redesigned a fragmented 1950s apartment in Rome's Monteverde district, eliminating a long corridor to create a continuous spatial narrative they call a 'sequence shot.' The intervention centers on a curved volume clad in lacquered black wood boiserie that serves as both storage and TV wall, filtering the former corridor from the living area. The apartment now features a generous living space with an open kitchen enclosed in black French-style iron profiles, a study zone, and a sleeping quarter. Color strategy is distinctive: a grey ceiling extends onto kitchen walls, while the living room features a caramel sofa and pink coffee table. The terrace uses checkerboard flooring in Roman red and pale green, with cacti and succulents. The bedroom is enveloped in deep blue walls with exposed concrete beams and a butter-colored ceiling. The main bathroom features pink 'mortadella' marble terrazzo and acid pistachio green shower area, while the guest bathroom is a monochromatic concrete-grey bunker. The project reflects Punto Zero's method of working with existing fabric rather than wholesale reinvention, following their Casa Herbaria and historic Roman penthouse transformations.
