Punto Zero's Casa Alkymia Transforms Rationalist Rome Apartment with Color and Terrazzo
Punto Zero, led by Arianna Nobile and Giorgio Marchese, has completed Casa Alkymia, a 230-square-meter apartment in a 1930s rationalist building in Rome's Monteverde Vecchio neighborhood. The interior design extracts formal vocabulary from the exterior facade—arched openings and curved profiles—and reintroduces it as organizing grammar. A plasterboard counter-wall between kitchen and living area features arches, projections, and recesses, integrating pre-existing windows into a unified composition. Color is treated as a structural decision, developed with consultant Sabina Guidotti of Blu di Prussia. Powder pink envelops the kitchen; carmine red with black terrazzo defines part of the master bedroom; blue-toned ceilings lower perceived height in the children's bedroom. Terrazzo flooring shifts grain and color by function, with brass thresholds marking transitions. Furniture includes pieces by Cassina, Knoll, Stilnovo, and a lithograph by Renato Guttuso. The kitchen island uses Agglotech SB114 Multicolor Grey by Ciocchetti Marmi. Selective demolitions optimized circulation and extended visual connection to a 140-square-meter terrace. The project follows Punto Zero's method of minimal structural change and maximal material and color intervention, consistent with their earlier Casa Harmonía.
