Punk band Marnero releases 'Requiem for TP' in memory of cartoonist Tuono Pettinato

other · 2026-04-27

On June 14, 2021, Tuono Pettinato, a leading figure in Italian comics, died at age 44 after a severe illness. The punk-hardcore band Marnero, part of Donnabavosa Records&Comics—a label founded by Pettinato—has released 'Requiem for TP,' a cover of a song originally by Laghetto from their 2003 album 'Sonate in Bu Minore per Quattrocento Scimmiette Urlanti.' The track was released online on September 27, the artist's birthday. It features Pettinato's voice from a 2005 interview on Radio Città del Capo, reciting a homage to Antonio Fogazzaro. The accompanying video includes live footage of Marnero. Pettinato, born in Pisa on September 27, 1976, studied at DAMS in Bologna, where he co-founded the Superamici collective with Ratigher, LRNZ, Dottor Pira, and Maicol & Mirco. He published his first self-produced comics there and later worked with publishers such as Campanila, Coniglio Editore, TopiPittori, Rizzoli Lizard, Coconino Press, and Canicola. Music was a constant in his life: he performed with his band Laghetto and created graphic novels about musicians, including 'Nevermind' on Kurt Cobain and 'We Are The Champions' on Freddie Mercury. He also drew portraits of David Bowie, Jerry Only, Keith Flint, and Layne Staley. The festival 'Giorni di Tuono,' dedicated to him, took place in Pisa last summer.
