Public Spirits at Ujazdowski Castle: Asian Art and Political Critique
For the third time in a year, Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw presents a survey of contemporary art from non-Western and developing countries. The exhibition 'Public Spirits' focuses on artists from Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Myanmar, and Taiwan, exploring how globalization is experienced in regions marked by political uncertainty and local conflict. The works—primarily video, installations, and new media—address the intersection of political ambition and human cost, questioning individual dignity in the face of market forces and power. Curated by Meiya Cheng, the show includes 21 artists such as Vuth Lyno, Dinh Q. Lê, Charles Lim, and Zhou Tao. The museum provides explanatory guides to help viewers engage with the politically charged content, emphasizing the role of the audience in using art as a tool for understanding the world. The exhibition runs until January 8, 2017.
