Public Art Across Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island

A survey of public art installations across New York City's outer boroughs highlights works by Siah Armajani, Harold Ancart, and others. In Brooklyn's Dumbo neighborhood, Siah Armajani's 'Bridge Over Tree' (1970) is reinstalled by Public Art Fund through September 29, featuring a white wooden walkway with a fir tree at its center. Nearby, Tom Fruin's 'Watertower' uses colored plexiglass and steel. At Cadman Plaza, Harold Ancart's 'Subliminal Standard' (through March 2020) replicates a handball wall with abstract repair-like compositions. In Queens, Corona Park hosts Cheryl Wing-Zi and Dev Harlan's 'Pooltime' (through summer 2020), referencing the 1964 World's Fair. Astoria's Socrates Sculpture Park, founded by Mark di Suvero in the 1980s, features Rafael Domenech's 'Las Palabras son Muros' (opened July 13) and School Studio's 'Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear'. Photoville photography festival runs September 12-22 under the Brooklyn Bridge.
