Psychedelic Mona Lisa Mural by Okuda Unveiled in Paris
Spanish street artist Oscar Okuda has completed a colossal 50-meter-tall and 15-meter-wide mural of the Mona Lisa on a building in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. The psychedelic reinterpretation features a miniskirted Mona Lisa with multicolored geometric pattern skin, carrying a handbag to symbolize Paris as the fashion capital. Okuda used over 450 spray cans for the work, which is part of the Street Art 13 program initiated by mayor Jérôme Coumet and galleries Itinerrance and Mathgoth. The project aims to transform the district into an open-air museum by inviting international street artists to paint building facades. Okuda told Le Figaro, "It's an iconic figure in Paris. I gave her a bag because Paris is the capital of fashion. Mona Lisa sells. For once, a work of art is bigger than a billboard." The mural is among the largest street art pieces in Europe.
