Psiko on Glitch Art, Graffiti, and the Fragmentation of Contemporary Life
Psiko, born in Turin in 1982 and based in Ferrara since 2008, is a self-taught artist specializing in murals and paintings. Over the past seven years, his research has focused on image deconstruction, using pixel art and glitch art to highlight the dynamism and dislocation of contemporary life. He is a member of the VidaKrei (VKB), sco crew, and mcdl crew collectives. His recent works on canvas address themes such as plastic abuse, migration, slavery, freedom, ancient goddesses reimagined, and natural glitching. Psiko describes glitch as the mode that best represents reality's complexity, citing the example of a straw in a glass of liquid to illustrate fragmented perception. During the pandemic, he continued working but missed participating in jam sessions across Italy. He uses acrylics, spray paint, markers, and pencils. His inspiration comes from daily field research, and he sees his work as a direct, barrier-free expressive outlet. He started graffiti in high school, drawn to the non-academic, rebellious nature of writing. He distinguishes his background from the broader term 'Street Art,' emphasizing that passion, not legality, defines the practice.
