Proposals for a Memorial to Partition at Jameel Arts Centre

At the Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai, an exhibition titled Proposals for a Memorial to Partition is currently on display, curated by Murtaza Vali. This showcase features contributions from various artists and writers, envisioning a memorial for the partitions that shaped contemporary South Asian nation-states. It presents a collection of artworks, sketches, texts, and maquettes that delve into the 1947 partition's themes of displacement and conflict. Vali first launched this initiative in 2011 for Sharjah Biennial 10, originally named Manual for Treason. The exhibition evolves by incorporating new proposals from contributors like Bani Abidi and Shilpa Gupta, alongside earlier works by artists such as Fahd Burki and Seher Shah.
