Proposal to Destroy an Interview Through Opacity

Padmateo Menezes, an artist and postgraduate student at PUC-SP, along with his undergraduate studies at Universidade Salvador, has introduced a novel interview format that questions conventional transparency in interviews. His work, "Proposta para destruir uma entrevista, pela opacidade," was featured on the Brazilian art platform Celeste. Menezes, who also serves as the editor-in-chief of Do Hiato and Litígio, and is the curator for the Bienal de Performance da Bahia, proposes that the interviewer and interviewee convene in a darkened environment, remaining unaware of each other's identities, while the interviewer refrains from asking revealing questions. This approach critiques modern transparency, drawing on Édouard Glissant’s concepts of opacity and otherness, and examines how to understand others without biases.
