Project Space Fondazione Marta Czok opens near Rialto Bridge in Venice
A new interdisciplinary art space, Project Space Fondazione Marta Czok, has opened steps from the Rialto Bridge in Venice. It is the Venetian branch of the Rome-based foundation dedicated to preserving the institutional works of Polish-Italian artist Marta Czok from the last forty years. The space will host exhibitions and events inspired by Czok's themes of social commentary, political satire, and migration. Its inaugural show, "The Rise and Fall of the Ideal City," runs from June 8 to September 9, 2023, pairing Czok's paintings from the 1980s to today with short films from Urban Visions Film Festival and A-Place, a project co-funded by the European Union's Creative Europe program. Curator Jacek Ludwig Scarso, who also co-directs the CREATURE Artistic Research Centre at London Metropolitan University, leads an international team of curators and collaborators. The space features two views—onto Campo Rialto Novo and the Grand Canal—and is designed for flexibility with high-quality technical installations. Future projects are planned with institutions across Europe and Australia, including new Italian and Venetian voices.
