Procuratie Vecchie reopen in Venice after 500 years with Chipperfield restoration
After a five-year renovation led by David Chipperfield Architects Milan, the Procuratie Vecchie in Venice's Piazza San Marco has reopened. The restoration focused on the first, second, and third floors, while the historic cafes and shops on the ground level were preserved. Since April 8, the building has been home to The Human Safety Net, a humanitarian initiative by Generali. The interiors, designed by Migliore+Servetto Architects, feature interactive installations, a co-working area, an Illy café, and The Hall auditorium, which accommodates 230 guests. The reopening was attended by Ministers Franceschini and Brunetta. An installation titled Monumento by Edoardo Tresoldi adorns the stairwell. From April 23 to September 11, 2022, it will host Persistence, a collateral event of Biennale Arte, showcasing works from the 1950s to 1980s.
