Procida 2022: A Summer of Art, Music, and Community on the Italian Island
Procida, Italy's Capital of Culture for 2022, has launched a dense cultural program with 44 projects, 330 days of events, 240 artists, 40 original works, and 8 regenerated spaces. The program includes a contemporary art exhibition 'The Tending of the Otherwise' curated by Simone Frangi and Alessandro Castiglioni, featuring 25 young artists from the Euro-Mediterranean area, with works displayed across the island until September 25. Other highlights include 'SprigionArti' with installations by William Kentridge, Maria Thereza Alves, Andrea Anastasio, Francesco Arena, and Jan Fabre in the former prison of Palazzo d'Avalos (until December 31); 'Fili d'ombra – fili di luce' exploring the prison's linen tradition (until December 31); 'IS.LAND' residencies for five international artists under 35 (September 12-25); 'Echi delle distanze' music series with artists from 11 island nations (through September); 'Restart from the future' architecture workshops for children led by Farm Cultural Park; 'Nutrice' gastronomic tours in collaboration with Slow Food; and 'Voci al vento' storytelling workshops by Aste&Nodi. The program also features the 'Esercizi sul futuro' debates on sustainability and the 'Ritual Project' exploring ancient island rituals through digital sound installations. Private initiatives include a custom deck of Neapolitan cards by restaurant L'Agave.
